Exchange of heavy artillery fire between the Liberation Tigers and Sri Lankan Army (SLA) on Friday morning took place at Naakarkoayil Front Defence Lines (FDL) in the northern province.

During the exchange of fire that lasted for about three hours, helicopters were seen flying from the SLA bases while shells launched by the LTTE fell inside SLA bases in Naakarkoayil and Manattkaadu, local sources said.

Details about the casualties in both sides could not be known.
