JVP parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Friday produced a bank receipt regarding the transfer of money to the account of Nation Building Minister S.M. Chandrasena from the account of former Chairman of Agrarian Insurance Board (AIB).
Mr. Dissanayake, who is now at loggerheads with the minister over the Mavilaru farmer compensation fraud, showed that Rs. 400,000 transaction was made on December 8, 2006 from a Commercial Bank Cinnamon Gardens branch account (number 8784592801) belonged to Namal Ratnayake, former Chairman of AIB, to a joint account maintained by Minister S. M. Chandrasena and his wife at Anuradhapura branch of Commercial Bank.
He alleged that the money withdrawn against 132 vouchers was not paid to the farmers as compensation.
The Chairman of AIB is now in remand for alleged misappropriation of over five million rupees of compensation, which was to be given to the farmers for damage of their crops.
The government allocated Rs. 18 million to compensate the farmers and the JVP said that the Minister had approved to pay over Rs. five million in cash, raising allegation of misappropriation of fund by the Minister.
