Douglas Devananda's deputy Thavaraja has quit the government sponsored paramilitary group EPDP and has fled to the United Kingdom with the millions he had amassed while in the group, TamilEditors.com reliably learns.
According to sources in London, Thavaraja, who was briefly a member of the Sri Lankan parliament, has severed all political ties and has wished to settle down with wife and children in Illford, Essex.
Reliable sources say that he was welcomed at the Heathrow airport by a family member and not the usual crowd of paramilitary operatives.
Meanwhile, Colombo media have speculated that the split is due to differences with the gang leader Douglas Devananda. Others have speculated that in his latter days, Thavaraja had become a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) operative, helping them move members around the island.
