The former head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) arms and ammunition procurement department, Mr Kumaran Pathmanadan alias KP has been arrested by Thai Police in Bangkok Thailand on Monday evening, the Sri Lankan Defence Ministry has reported.
When asked about his apparent capture, Mr Pathmanadan who has since late 2003 retired to the peaceful village of Mankulam, here in Vavuniya, burst into laughter.
He told SiberNews that the news reminded him of the premature obituary of the Tamil national leader published by India's Hindu newspaper a decade ago.
Mr Pathmanadan is believed to have retired from his position as head of one of LTTE's most essential departments after twenty years of service.
The identities of the individual who took over KP's position and that of the hundreds of men and women who serve in the department are not released to the public for obvious reasons.
Commenting on the Sri Lankan Defence Ministry's claims, senior analyst to SiberNews Mr DJ Jayraj said that "nothing else could be expected from the Sri Lankan government that was gloating over the deaths of Mr Pirapakaran and Mr Pottuamman just hours into the aftermath of the Tsunami disaster".
