Sri Lanka: 46 civilians arrested during two search operations in Dehiwala, Gampaha

In two separate cordon and search operations jointly conducted by Sri Lankan Army and Police in Dehiwala and Gampaha, a total of 46 civilians, majority of Tamil civilians, were arrested in last two days.
During a search operation in Dehiwala in Colombo district from Saturday night to Sunday dawn, total 17 civilians, majority of them Tamils, were arrested, sources in Colombo said.
About one hundred houses located in two lanes where Tamils are in majority and coastal area were thoroughly checked.
Authorities said the suspects were arrested for their failure in producing relevant documents to prove their identity and reason for their stay in the location.
They are being interrogated by the Terrorist Intelligence Division, police sources said.
Meanwhile, in another search operation in Gampaha town 39 civilians were taken into custody in the western province on Saturday.
