Sri Lanka: Journalist questioned by CID

The media watch dog Reporters Without Borders have called on the Sri Lankan president to condemn the police act. The journalist Sakalasooriya was questioned about his report about the son of a senior ruling party official who imported a British-made luxury car without paying customs duty, published on September 9.
The police had asked the journalist to reveal his sources of his information. Meanwhile, the Paris based media watch dog Reporters Without Borders called on President Mahinda Rjapakse to ‘publicly condemn’ the interrogation of journalist Sakalasooriya by the Criminal Investigation Department.
“After last month's threats against investigative journalist Iqbal Athas, this new case shows that it is getting more and more difficult for the media to do its job in Sri Lanka  it is getting more and more difficult for the media to do its job in Sri Lanka,” The RSF said.
