Two commandos of Sri Lanka Special Task Force (STF) were killed when Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) ambushed a STF patrol unit around 9:45 a.m. on Monday at Bakmitiyawa in Ampaarai district. The attack also left three STF troopers injured, LTTE sources in Ampaarai said.
The bodies of the troopers killed were handed over to Ampaarai base hospital. STF, however, did not reveal the names of the commandos killed in the attack.
Sources said the LTTE has recently intensified its guerilla attacks in the district that have inflicted significant casualties on the STF.
Meanwhile, after the incident the SLA launched a search operation in the area.
