Sri Lanka: SLA strengthens security in Jaffna following some recent attacks

Against the backdrop of some recent incidents of attack made on its soldiers, the Sri Lankan Army (SLA) has intensified security in Jaffna peninsula that has begun on Monday morning. Local sources said the SLA has launched extensive search operations in Jaffna town, Valikaamam areas, and coastal areas of Vadamaraadchi. They are searching every nook and corner of the areas and vehicles in these areas.
Sources in Jaffna said SLA troops on duty at check posts and sentry points along the roads in the peninsula leading to Jaffna town, are seen checking vehicles, passengers, pedestrians who are entering Jaffna town and the SLA High Security Zone (HSZ).
Sources said the SLA has also tightened the security measures in Kurunakar and the Jaffna lagoon areas and soldiers often fire in the air to caution the attackers.
