Sunday Times columnist Iqbal Athas who had had his security withdrawn and warned of 'serious consequences' for his negative portrayal of the ruling Rajapaksa brothers regime is full of nothing but praise for the elite in his Situation Report published today (Sunday, 23).
The otherwise scandal ridden navy chief Wasantha Karannagoda who had time and time again been exposed for purchasing below par equipment at extortionate costs has been praised for his "meticulous planning" in the so called destruction of LTTE arms vessels.
And in a rare honour to the ruling regime Athas added "under the tenure of the Mahinda Rajapaksa administration, this is the third occasion when the Navy has destroyed guerrilla cargo vessels".
Athas, failed to ponder on many of the anomalies commented on by SiberNews in previous columns, and went on defiantly to support government claims by adding that the three LTTE vessels were heading towards southern Sri Lanka from Australia.
According to Athas, the vessels were carrying motor shells; vehicle spare parts; camouflage uniform and air craft fuel.
