A total of seven civilians of different ages on Monday sought protection from Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna office after they received death threats from Sri Lankan Army (SLA) and government backed paramilitary groups.
Of seven, six are from Thenmaraadchi and one from Vadamaraadchi and their ages are between 24 and 56.
Because of threat on life, the number of civilians seeking protection from HRC is on the rise, civil society sources in Jaffna said.
A man of 56-year-old ha sought shelter for the second time in the protective custody in Jaffna prison, sources said.
Meanwhile, officials in HRC Jaffna said they have received complaints that two men, Yogarasa Sathiyarupan, 28, a resident of Koddadi in Jaffna town and Thilainathan Suthaharan, 27, father of a child and resident of Maanipay road, in Jaffna have been missing since Friday.
