The scheduled meeting of Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) Northern Region officials with Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam (LTTE) officials in Kilinochchi on Thursday noon could not be held as Sri Lankan Army (SLA) blocked the peace minitors officials at Oamanthai entry point after getting directives from Colombo.

Talking to media General Secretary of Liberation Tigers Peace Secretariat, S. Puleedevan, said that Colombo always wanted to block the information flow between the SLMM and the LTTE and they proved it again by declining to allow the SLMM officials to go to Kilinochchi for holding a meeting with the LTTE leaders.

The Sri Lankan government took this step against the SLMM officials coming from Iceland and Norway following the controversy surrounding Tuesday's meeting between an Icelandic Foreign Ministry official and LTTE's Political Head in Kilinochchi.

Sources in Colombo said the Sri Lankan foreign ministry has been highly annoyed for Tuesday’s meeting of Icelandic Foreign Ministry official, Bjarni Vestmann, with LTTE's Political Head S.P. Thamilchelvan.

The foreign ministry alleged that the travel of Mr. Vestmann to Kilinochchi, facilitated by the SLMM, was arranged bypassing the normal channels.

Mr. Puleedevan said two officials from SLMM’s Northern Region office in Vavuniya and two its two technicians from Colombo, visiting the Liaison Office in Kilinochchi, were denied access on Thursday by the SLA officials at Oamanthai entry point.

The SLMM has six District Offices and a Liaison Office in LTTE controlled Killinochchi, he added.
