The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) on Wednesday said that the forthcoming budget would have serious impact on the country’s political situation. Addressing a press conference party leader, Anura Kumara Dissanayake who was minister in the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) government, said that the JVP would take a decision at a suitable time whether it would support the budget or oppose it. He categorically said his party would not submit any proposals for the forthcoming budget, saying this budget would determine country's political future. On the support of the present government among general people, he said its popularity is waning fast as the working class and the fixed income groups are undergoing immense suffering due to escalation of prices of essentials. “But the government is totally indifferent to it and is not paying any attention to bring down the prices within the purchasing capacity of the common men," he added. JVP has 39 seats in the current parliament. Set as favorite Bookmark Comments (1)

| AKD seems to be the lone crusader. Other marxists are reportedly leaning heavily towards the government and I will not be surprised if Medamulana did not pull a fast one on the battle front and get the budget passed with the blessings of the JVP. It will be a blessing in disguise for the JVP too, for they know they cannot go to the people with their high pitched theories for election ...... let's wait and see. |
