State Terrorism - Bindunuweva Massacre Remembered |

Bindunuweva Massacre of 27 Tamils youths in the Government camp by Guards and their friends happened on 25 Oct 2000 at a detention camp situated in central Sri Lankan Bandarawela district. 14 more youngsters were were seriously injured in the attack, which brought international condemnation.
Many of those who died were teenage Tamil Tiger rebel suspects. The Bindunuweva camp was maintained by the National Youth Service Council and provided vocational training to the rebels after they give themselves up to the security forces. "These are people who were being taught some trade so that they could go back to society as free men," a military official said.

Bindunuwewa prison camp is situated in sinhala area.a large group of tamil suspects were kept in this prison. the cynical idea was to keep them in a dangerous hostile surrounding. racist politicians kept the racist fire on by their utterances . rathnasiri wickramanyaka was one of them. we in our statement mentioned the special campaign carried out by rathnasiri provoking hate among the villagers.after the incident attempt was made to put the blame on innocent people.this was exposed by some impartial police officers.it is the great folly of these racist politicians to believe that Tamil struggle can be suppressed by cruelty and hate. massacres of this sort consolidate the feeling among the Tamils for liberation.it only aggravated the feeling among the Tamils that there is no solution in a united country.this is why all those who expect to live together should irreconcilably fight against this kind of cruelty.
