Sri Lanka: Father and son shot dead in Vavuniya

The son, Ramanan age 21, was shot dead near Pattaikkaadu in Vavuniya at 12:00 noon while his father, Ravichandrarajah age 43, was shot dead at 12:15 p.m. near Kulumaatti Santhi in Kaathaan Koattam, Vavuniya. Their bodies have been transferred to Vavuniya Government Hospital at 3.30 p.m.
The deceased persons’ family is originally from Jaffna, later displaced to Kilinochchi, and has been living in Vavuniya for several years. The family has been facing severe harassments from the Sri Lankan military and paramilitary operatives in recent times.
There has been a steady increase of incidents in which civilians are abducted, killed and bodies thrown in open fields. The targeted killing of civilians also on the rise which has caused fear among the civilian population, who are afraid to venture out after dusk.
