Sri Lanka: TNA delegation apprises UN High Commissioner for Human Rights of gross violations of Tamils' rights

A delegation of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) on Wednesday evening apprised Louise Arbour, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, of the deteriorating human rights situation in Sri Lanka, particularly in the northeast.
The three-member delegation led by Mr. Sampanthan met Ms. Louise Arbour at the UN office in Colombo and briefed her on different aspects of rights violations of Tamil people by government forces and paramilitary groups being backed by government military.
Parliamentarians Gajendrakumar Ponnampalam and Suresh Premachandran accompanied Mr. Sampanthan in the meeting.
Louise Arbour is scheduled to meet relatives and family members of missing and abducted persons in Colombo on Thursday, which is to be held at the office of Civil Monitoring Committee led by Colombo parliamentarian Mano Ganeshan, leader of the Western Peoples Front (WPF).
On Friday, Ms. Arbour will meet relatives of abducted and missing persons in Jaffna at UN office located along Temple Road in the town.
