Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarians on Thursday visited the Tamil detainees who were attacked in Welikada prison during their fast unto death on Wednesday. Three TNA parliamentarians-- Sivanathan Kishore, P. Ariyanenthran and K.Pathmanathan—talked to prisoners and enquired about their health conditions.

Tamil political detainees in the prison went on a fast unto death on Wednesday morning demanding that UN Human Rights High Commissioner, Louise Arbour, visit them to see their plights in the prison and to expedite their cases which are lying pending for last two years.

But a prison guard and some fellow Sinhala prisoners swooped on Tamil detainees when they were observing fast unto death on the day.

The Tamil detainees observed the fast unto death programme for the second consecutive day Thursday.

Meanwhile, they handed over three separate petitions for forwarding those to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the visiting UN Human Rights High Commissioner Louise Arbour and Attorney General C.R.de Silva.

In the petition written to Ms Arbour, they have requested her to visit them and to exert pressure on the Sri Lankan government to expedite their cases.
