Saturday, 13 October 2007
The Committee to Protect Journalists on Thursday called on the Sri Lankan government to bring peace to the country and stop waging a war of intimidation on journalists. The Committee to Protect Journalists’ Asia Program Coordinator Bob Dietz has urged the Sri Lankan government to desist from intimidation of journalists.
He made the comment in response to a statement issued by the Sri Lankan government’s media centre for national security saying that “anyone critical of the military as a traitor to the nation as such people undermined the lives of armed forces personnel.Bob Dietz said such blatant statement from the Sri Lankan government aimed at journalists underline just how insecure media freedom is in Sri Lanka.
