Welikada Tamil prisoners’ Fast continue, 42 fainted |

42 Tamil prisoners out of the 86 inmates, who have been on a fasting campaign requesting the UN Human Rights Commissioner to meet them, fainted and two of them were in critical conditions. Meanwhile, a group of three TNA MPs have visited the fasting prisoners on Thursday.
The fasting campaign which was started on the 10th of October appealing the visiting UN high commissioner to meet the Tamil prisoners is continuing to the third day. 42 out of the 86 fasting inmates have fainted and two among them Muthuvel Sriskantharaja age 69 and Mahalingam Suthakaran age(15) were in a serious condition. Many of the fasting Tamil inmates, who are suffering from fever and eye infections, are not provided with medical care by the prison authorities.
Meanwhile, three Tamil National Alliance parliamentarians, Sivanathan Kishore, P. Ariyanenthran and K.Pathmanathan visited the fasting Tamil prisoners at Welikada on Thursday. The prisoners handed over three separate petitions to be forwarded to the visiting UN Human Rights High Commissioner Louise Arbour, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Sri Lankan Attorney General C.R.de Silva.
