An Inshore Patrol Craft (IPC) belonging to the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) was sunk and five Sinhalese sailors onboard were killed on Saturday morning, when they attempted to venture into Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) territorial waters.
Three of the bodies have been recovered by LTTE divers. Arrangements are being made with the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) to return them to the SLN.
LTTE divers were also able to recover arms and ammunition onboard the IPC, including a 40mm gun that had been recently been purchased by the SLN to counter the firepower of the Sea Tigers.
