Sri Lanka: Bill Gates pledges funds to Sri Lanka

Microsoft Corporation Chairman and one time the richest person in the world, Bill Gates has vowed to continue his support to Sri Lanka in order to finance the establishment of a centre of excellence on state of the art innovative techniques in ICT. Gates who recently had a one to one discussion with Education Minister Susil Premajayantha has expressed this pledge.
The Minister met Gates at an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) conference organised by the Microsoft in Beijing.
“The Education Ministry has signed an MoU with Microsoft and they have been helping us with teacher training programmes and technical assistance. During a discussion with Gates at the conference he stated that he would continue to extend the facilities given to us,” Premajayantha told The Nation.
It was also learnt that the Microsoft’s assistance was used to implement the five year programme that was initiated to develop ICT training in Sri Lanka.
