Senior Presidential Advisor, Basil Rajapaksa told visiting UN Rights Chief, Louise Arbour that the UN should not act as a policeman waiting to book Sri Lanka but assist to improve conditions in the country, The Nation learns.
When Arbour met Rajapaksa for discussions, the Presidential Advisor and younger brother of President Mahinda Rajapaksa cited India as an example and said that whenever there was a problem in the north of Sri Lanka, New Delhi would help to resolve the problems by addressing food shortages and other things. “They are not performing a policing job in the region. Likewise, we urge the UN to assist Sri Lanka and refrain from policing human rights in the country,” Rajapaksa told the Commissioner.
