Sri Lankan ambassador to Tehran Muhammad Zuhair has voiced support for Iran's inalienable right to attain peaceful nuclear technology. Expressing support for Iran-IAEA negotiations, Zuhair asserted that the International Atomic Energy Agency's conventions allow Iran to conduct nuclear researches. The ambassador denounced the spread of rumors of a US attack against Iran and voiced doubt about such a move adding that Sri Lanka opposed the imposition of new sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Muhammad Zuhair added that the Sri Lankan President's meeting with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the sideline of the UN General Assembly in New York would pave the way for the further expansion of Iran-Sri Lanka ties.
