Why does the JVP adopt double standards with regard to international involvements in Sri Lanka? On one hand they hit out at International Organizations and UN peripherals working in Sri Lanka to provide humanitarian aid etc and on the other hand they invite the International Community to help wipe out terrorism, says the Western Peoples’ Front.
The JVP so far hasn’t shown any interest in putting forward their proposals to the APRC nor has it supported the committee in any way to find a solution to the ethnic problem, says its General Secretary Dr. N. Kumaraguruparan. Kumaraguruparan added “When there is an end to war there will be an end to terror. There is only the terror of war. Only a political solution can now stop the war. The APRC is finding it difficult to finalize an acceptable proposal because of some groups of fundamentalist racist parties. It is a mockery that they claim to be patriots. “The JVP’s stand with regard to International non- governmental organizations with personnel from developed countries, which are helping Sri Lanka develop, demonstrates that the JVP is politically bankrupt. It is unethical and not politically correct to say International Organizations are supporting separation and terrorism. These organizations have been assisting Sri Lanka for years and take a keen interest in Sri Lanka’s development. We understand that UNP is for extensive power devolution but tries to drop the word “federalism” because the word is allergic to certain political quarters especially Sinhala fundamentalists. We believe that there is no significant shift in the UNP’s stance as it was former UNP leader J.R Jayawardena, who at the time commanded a historic majority in government accepted the devolution of power through the 13th Amendment. Ranil on the other hand signed the CFA for peace to return to Sri Lanka.
JVP as a responsible party must boldly say what their solution to the ethnic conflict is. The reality is that Sri Lanka is a pluralistic society. Hence good governance calls for equal treatment to be meted out to every citizen irrespective of religion and ethnicity, whether they like it or not. Set as favorite Bookmark Comments (1)

| JVP is now between the devil and the deep blue sea. It would be tempting to dislodge the present government for there is enough material to do so. If they do that, there is the question of facing an election which they know will not generate as many winners. Given their recent record of hunting with the hound and running with the hare, they might even end up with just a few handful. They are now taking on "Adirajya vadaya", which is easier target to shout from roof top and entertain people like mother feeding children telling "Ghost Stories" They, as the former terroris organization are not good at doing anything good. They survive on misery and problems. If they run short of it they deliberately create some to ensure their survival. |
