Sri Lanka: Paramilitary operative shot dead; a cop injured in a grenade attack in Batticaloa

Unidentified gunmen riding on a motorbike has shot dead a paramilitary operative in Eeravoor on Monday around 10.00 p.m. Meanwhile, a Sri Lankan police person was injured in a grenade attack on Tuesday morning on his sentry post at Chaththurukkondaan along the Batticaloa-Trincomalee road. Unidentified armed men shot dead a paramilitary operative on Monday around 10:00 p.m. at Jeevapuram in Earaavoor in Batticaloa district. The victim was identified as Kanthasamy Thevarajah, 20.
The deceased operative was an employee of World Vision and had left the aid agency to join the Karuna paramilitary group.
He was shot dead when he was on his way to his relative's house. His body was recovered on Tuesday around 10:30 a.m. and handed over to Chengkaladi hospital.
Meanwhile, two unidentified youths on a motorcycle attacked a police sentry post at Chaththurukkondaan with a hand grenade on Tuesday around 5:35 a.m., seriously injuring a policeman. The police sentry post is close to Special Task Force camp located at Chaththurukkondaan along the Batticaloa-Trincomalee road.
The injured policeman was identified as M. Abeyasiri age 33. He has been admitted to Batticaloa Teaching hospital for treatment.
