Leader of the Western People’s Front and Convener of the Monitoring Commission on Disappearances and Extra Judicial Killings Mano Ganesan condemned the Indian government’s decision to re-start ‘offensive’ arms supply to Sri Lanka.
He was responding to a recent Indian media report which said the Indian government is to step up arms supply to Sri Lanka. “India stepping up the supply offensive arms to Sri Lanka makes us, the Tamils in general and the people of recent Indian origin in particular very sad and rather ashamed. We wonder when this country of our forefathers will ever learn to handle the Lankan situation correctly,” Ganesan said in a statement yesterday.
He said it is reported that India is supplying offensive arms to Lanka to outmanoeuvre approaches by China and Pakistan.
Ganeshan said Indian leaders should take a ride back in memory lane. “Short sighted decisions tend to live short. Indian past decisions on Lankan issues neither helped India nor Lanka nor the Tamil people. Decisions made with wrong perspectives have back fired throughout history.
