The country is heading towards a full fledged war warned the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) on Monday. TNA Parliamentarian M.K. Shivajilingam told The Morning Leader the government was taking the country towards bloodshed. He said the LTTE had not declared war yet since both parties involved in the Ceasefire Agreement (CFA) had not withdrawn from it so far. Shivajilingam said this following the LTTE attack on the Sri Lanka Air Force Base in Anuradhapura on Monday (22). However, Shivajilingam said the CFA was defunct and was limited to words.
"The government has created a situation where the country is heading for real time war. I don't think the LTTE has declared a full fledged war with the attack on the Anuradhapura base. However, none of the parties involved in the CFA have given notice that they are withdrawing from the document though it is only limited to words," Shivajilingam said.
However, Shivajilingam said there was a chance of talks resuming provided the government created a suitable environment.
"There is a chance for talks. However, it will not be possible if the government continues to go on the war path. This will result in war if it continues," Shivajilingam further said.
Head, LTTE Peace Secretariat, S. Pulidevan had stated at a function last week that there was no chance of talks in the future and warned that real war was yet to begin.
