Sri Lanka: Body of youth found in Jaffna while Insurance Corporation employee shot dead

Jaffna police handed over the body of a youth with gun shot wounds Thursday around 11:30 p.m to Jaffna Teaching hospital for postmortem examinations claiming that they found the body lying along a road in the area near Jaffna Hindu College Thursday night, sources in Jaffna said. The same sourses also said A 27-year-old employee of a popular Insurance Corporation in Jaffna was shot dead by unknown gunmen at 8:45 a.m. Friday, The National Identity Card found on the body has the name Palani Selvarasa. No information was available about the killers or the motive of the killing. No one has claimed the body and the hospital authorities have requested the public to help identity the victim. Mean while A 27-year-old employee of a popular Insurance Corporation in Jaffna was shot dead by unknown gunmen riding a motorbike near Brown Road within Jaffna Municipal boundary at 8:45 a.m. Friday, sources in Jaffna said.

The victim, Kanagarajah Pratheepan, is the brother of journalist, Kanagarajah Prasaanth.

Pratheepan is from Vithaanaiyaar Road, Kokuvil East Jaffna. He was on his way to work when he was shot dead.

But the local residents of the area questioned, as to how such an incident can occur while the regular night time curfew was being on the implementation .Further they also doubts how can this type of incidents occur with out the knowledge of the Srilankan forces as they were roaming the streets in the curfew hours.
