A group of unidentified men with their faces covered with black cloth looted away cash money, jewelry and other goods from at least three houses located within the boundary of Jaffna Municipal Council around 8 p.m. on Friday.
Police said the miscreants who spoke fluently in Tamil and Sinhala entered more than three houses along Navalar Road, Kantharmadam railway station road, and another residence near Jaffna Hindu College and took away cash money, goods and gold ornaments at gun point.
They also physically assaulted inmates of the houses during robbery.
This series of robbery incidents have given rise to both anger and tension among local people as these occurred during curfew hours in the areas where a large number of Sri Lanka Army (SLA) mini camps and check points are located.
Police said separate complaints have been lodged with Jaffna police in connection with these incidents.
