Sri Lanka: Two prisoners shot dead in court premises, two others escape

Kalutara prison guards on Monday afternoon shot dead two prisoners who allegedly tried to flee from the Panadura Magistrates Courts. The prisoners killed were identified as Anura Pradeep Silva alias Thola and Saman Nuwan Pushpalal.
Police said out of six prisoners two tried to flee by jumping off the Panadura Court building where they were being held before being taken back to the Kalutara prison.
Two prisoners injured in the shooting, however, could escape and the police have launched an operation in search of them.
According to reports, the six had been remanded in cases in connection with extortion and killings in the Kalutara area.
The injured were admitted to the Panadura General Hospital while one of them were transferred to the National Hospital.
