The government of Sri Lanka has hailed the air strike of Sri Lankan Air Force (SLAF) that killed Tamil Tigers chief negotiator and Political Wing head, Mr. S. P. Thamilchelvan and five other LTTE officials and vowed to kill other LTTE leaders too one by one.
In an instant reaction, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Sri Lankan Defence Secretary and who is one of the important policymakers of the government, hailed the air raid and said his government would kill other LTTE leaders too ‘one by one’. He expressed his joy at a celebratory meeting at Temple Trees, the official residence of President Mahinda Rajapakse, who is also Mr. Gotabaya’s brother. "This is just a message that we know where their leaders are. I know the locations of all the leaders, that if we want we can take them one by one, so they must change their hideouts," Reuters quoted Gotabaya as saying. Meanwhile, the Colombo stock market soared when the news of the deaths of Thamilchelvan and others spread. "Any sort of victory in the war boosts the market," said Harsha Fernando, CEO at SC securities. But many political analysts are of the opinion that the Sri Lankan government’s decision to target Mr. Thamilchelvan is a major blow to lingering hopes of a resumption of peace talks. "The loss of Thamilselvan in this way would be a very big setback to any hope of peace talks in the near future - which in any case were not apparent either," Jehan Perera of the National Peace Council, an advocacy group, told Reuters. Re: Fernando It??s amazing how SLA praises cowardly attacks and claims modern styles of combat by LTTE (i.e. airbases attacks in enemy territory) as cowardly. Moreover, in the eyes of Singhalese majority the loss of P. Thamilchelvan is satisfying news, which agitates unthoughtful glory as seen by Gotabaya Rajapaksa??s remarks. As seen by Gotabaya Rajapaksa??s claim that they themselves, ??know where their leaders are. [We] know the locations of all the leaders, that if we want we can take them one by one, so they must change their hideouts.? If this claim were true, it is simply embarrassing to have taken SLA years to attack ??known?? hideout with their supersonic Kfir jets. Clearly, Gotabaya??s remark was of mere fantasy due to glory. The instant Gotabaya had vowed to kill other higher LTTE officials; his countdown to join previous Sri Lankan presidents (other than Chandarika) has begun. If Fernando had not gotten just as excited, maybe he would have made a comment with proper grammar and thereby reflect a higher degree of intelligence. |

Killing Mr. Thamilchelvan was a definitely a major setback for the peace process as he was a moderate and one who had an in depth understanding of the causes of conflict. He was able to interact with peace negotiators and the world at large well enough to express the views and convey the expectations of the Tamil people in a clear and precise manner. It is sad that a person of such high esteem who had the courage and wisdom to speak out for justice and fair play had to go at a time when he is most needed. This is indeed a tragedy and a sad day for freedom and rights and most of all the Tamil people who are deprived of these. He died a hero fighting for a just cause. His memory will live for ever in the hearts of the Tamils. May his soul rest in peace. People dying in a war or conflict happens and the loss is for both sides but rejoicing the killing of a person who exhibited such a high degree of skills and excellence in the peace negotiation process, a person who stood for peace, justice, freedom and fair play does not speak well for the SLA as a person of such a caibre whichever side of the conflict he belongs should be respected. That is the mark of a statesman, a true leader. |

The GOSL has no interest in going to the negotiating Table. This act will take the war to a higher dimension.Gotabaya percieves this act as a victory. The threat of 'taking out one by one' is uttered in a state of euphoria. His utterences clearly indicates he is blowing his horn in a war cry and not a just peace call. Brigadier Thamilchelvan gave his life for the cause of the Tamil people. He was the voice of the Tamils cry for freedom. Killing leaders does not end a cry for freedom. Or is Gotabaya planning to exterminate all Tamils? |
| Please wait up to 26 November, then Rajapakse will relaise true. One day he will worry about this incident. When he lost his all family. |
| mr fenando if one tamilselvan dies means thousands of tamilselvan will emerge to our battle feild. no one prevent the birth of tamil elam. mind it |

Well done Sri lankan forces and Triple GEM bless you all, LTTE was very happy after the Anudahapura attack and LTTE lost 21 well trained fighters and now top leaders, what a great loss, NEXT you ltte and not Rajapaksa Family. |
| This is a timely step in the right direction. No peace can be achieved until LTTE leadership is eradicated. They are blindfolded with racism and even ethnically cleansed Jaffna chasing we Muslims away, who to date live in refugee camps. Soon we can return to our land if the LTTE terrorist leadership is eliminated. |
| Are we getting into a scenario in which ordinary sinahales and tamils are used in a game of chess of politics? No matter the ordinary citizens look like human beings they are all lumps of some flesh and blood that could be indiscriminately used for political games and gains. We are reduced to such a lowly state because we have an epidemic of amnesia. Recognizing this trait, the politicians of this country try to give us a bigger problem enabling us to forget the previous one. It works beautifully. Keep us entertained and make your bucks. |

I have seen enough of this statement from the LTTE suporters who want to seperate the country somehow at the end Can any of you guys tell, how the govenment should act to bring these terrorists to the negotiation Tables or talk about peace. Even if a beautiful flower bloomed in somewhere in the country they say " Oh now it is not possible to have any peace without the seperation". We have had enough of that stupid statement which clearly showed what these terrorists wanted for the last 25 years... Have they ever kept the idea of breaking the crountry in to two..??? Sure, this is not the only way to end the issues with the tamil people, but, LTTE doesn't have any thing else in their mind except breaking the country in to pieces which will never happen ever. It is clear to anyone whats the governments commitment to bring the lives back for the civilians liberated in the east. NIts not about the suffering Innocent civilians, Its all about the group of these LTTE suporters who are after a cheap war to achive thier targets. How many of those cardres are fighting for them willingly..? So they will talk about torturing better. LTTE has been torturing the whole population living under thier control. As a responsible govenment, It has all the rights to protect every citizen. anyone can't control a single inch in the land against the gonevrenment's law. Only terrorists can and should be fought against. I am not personally sad about Tamilselvans death as he and his fellows had put thousands of Tamils in risk and was killed. I am really sad about them... War against LTTE should never be stopped, no matter what is the cost. And it should be stoped only if they are ready to talk about any solution without deviding the country. |
| Ok singalese ........TRY BE HAPPY FOR SOMETIME ATLEAST.....THAT ABOUT IT,NO MORE JOY FOR YOU GUYS........COUNTDOWN HAS ALREADY STARTED ,SOON YOU CAN SEE POOR SINGALESE ARMY WILL RUN WITHOUT HAND,LEGS,,,,,,HEADS. |
