British government has appointed Dr. Peter Hayes as new British High Commissioner to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in succession to Mr. Dominick Chilcott. The British high commission officials said Mr. Chilcott will be given new diplomatic assignment.

The officials further said that new high commissioner, Dr. Hayes, will take over his charge in January 2008.

Dr. Hayes is in foreign services of Britain from 1990s and he has gathered extensive knowledge in this field.
