Norwegian special envoy for the peace process in Sri Lanka, Jon Hanssen Bauer, on Saturday paid tributes to slain LTTE leader S. P. Thamilchelvan. In his address delivered at a memorial gathering at the Tamil Resource and Counseling Centre in Oslo, he lauded the role of late Thamilchelvan that he played in the peace process. Mr. Bauer said the role Thamilchelvan played was important not only for Norway, but also for other countries.
Highlighting different aspects of Thamilchelvan’s characteristics, he said the LTTE leader always showed maximum patient in negotiation table to realize the rightful demands of Tamils and by nature he was a moderate person within the LTTE who always sought political alternatives.
Representatives of the Norwegian political parties, Norwegian academics studying on Sri Lanka and a good number of the Tamil Diaspora members attended the programme.
