The Defacto State of Tamileelam has given a state funeral for its assassinated peace envoy today. The state funeral of S. P. Thamilchelvan, the head of the Liberation Tigers’ Political Wing and the movement’s Chief Negotiator, who was assassinated last Friday in a targeted air strike by the Sri Lanka Air Force, is held in Kilinochchi today according to our correspondent in the area.
As Sri Lankan government vowed Monday to continue hitting Tamil Tiger leaders with air strikes as a way of bringing peace to the island, Sri Lankan air force fighter jets flew several sorties over the funeral procession.
Ignoring the Sri Lankan air force fighter jets flying over the funeral procession thousands of civilians and rebels participated in the funeral.
The LTTE Political Division had announced a three-day mourning following the demise of their political head and peace envoy.
Tens of thousands of people paid their respects Saturday and Sunday as Mr. Thamilchelvan’s body was taken in procession to the twelve sectors of the LTTE-administered Wanni, in the northern and Eastern Sri Lanka.
Thamilchelvan was posthumously promoted to the rank of Brigadier by the LTTE.
Meanwhile remembrance ceremonies are being organized by community organizations in the countries hosting the extensive Tamil Diaspora.
