Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake on Sunday said that the Sri Lankan air force will continue their operations to kill LTTE leaders hiding in Vanni. “Our security forces are targeting the hiding places and safe houses of terrorist leaders to deal a mortal blow to the Tigers. They will not give up their relentless pursuit of terrorists”, the PM said while speaking to journalists at a function in Ingiriya, following killing of LTTE’s political wing head Brig. S.P. Thamilselvan and five other LTTE officials.

Wickremanayake categorically said his government is no more interested to go in for a fresh ceasefire, but it is ready for unconditional talks as it has always been.

He accused the LTTE of spurning the peace process and said the government is always ready for negotiation.

The PM said the government armed forces are fully capable to face the enemy which, he said, carries out cowardly operations from hideouts.

Meanwhile, Tamil observers in Colombo said Sri Lankan government is playing double standard in bringing the conflict to an end.

They are of the opinion that the Sri Lankan government has no specific proposal to end the ethnic conflict. Rather the government is buying time to make its military forces stronger to remain in power.
