The ex-MP from the Third Chamber of The Netherlands Paul Willms, in a statement issued on Sunday, said the killing of Brig. S.P Tamilselvan was a provocative act by the Sri Lankan government and called on the international community to impose sanctions on the Sri Lankan government fro failing to deliver a reasonable solution to legitimate aspirations of the Tamil community.

Describing the killing of Brig. S.P. Tamilselvan as an unwise provocation the former MP from the third Chamber of The Netherland Paul Willms has called on the international community to impose sanctions on the government of Sri Lanka for failing to deliver reasonable solution to the legitimate aspirations of the Tamil community even after three decades.

“the killing of Mr. S.P Thamilchelvan has been a provocative act by the Sri Lankan government and urge the international community to put in place sanctions on the government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka as it is, after three decades, still unable to deliver a reasonable proposal to meet the legitimate political aspiration of the Tamil community and to improve the deteriorating human rights record in the country which can only disable the current culture of impunity.” He said. He appeal to the international community with especially to the European Union, India and the United States of America to implement an even-handed approach and policy towards both warring parties to facilitate sustainable solution to the conflict.

From the comments of Paul Willms of the Netherlands, more and more leaders and people of the international community are realizing the actual situation in Sri Lanka and which party is committing the crimes. He regards and justifiably so, the killing of the Tamil political head as a provocative act by the Sri Lankan government and called on the international community to impose sanctions on the SL government for failing to deliver a reasonable solution to legitimate aspirations of the Tamil community. He also pointed out the deteriorating human rights record in the country as a result of governmentâ??s actions and called upon the EU, India and the United States of America to adopt a fair approach which can bring about an honourable end to the conflict.

Just look at the reaction and behaviour of the so called current government leaders and the armed forces personnel. It is understood that the Singhalese leaders danced at the Presidentâ??s residence with liquor and celebrated the death of this man of peace. In the aftermath of the Thoppigala incident, the President gave orders to celebrate their supposed victory which killed and destroyed the innocent lives and destroyed their livelihood. No Tamils celebrated, instead they felt suppression and disgusted having their rights and freedom further denied, they saw violence and blood stained their land and lives of their people. The people from the Singhalese origin, the embassies and foreign missions and even some of the Singhalese armed forces personnel in the North and East did not join the celebrations as they too felt this was a tragic incident which only created bitterness, hatred and distrust between the two races. Again in the aftermath of the Anuradhapura Air base attack, the Sri Lankan army personnel had indulged in despicable acts of stripping bodies of people killed in the conflict displaying them nakedly in public â?? an act which goes beyond any norms or standards of human decency. What does one call all these acts? Like it or not, all these are being done by the government and its armed forces. Dont they reflect the low mentality of the leaders and their armed forces personnel. They must be very sick in their minds. These are the people who are running the government. The irony is the US, the EU, China, India and others supporting such people and aiding them with military hardware to suppress the Tamil people. Can anyone expect a just solution or fair treatment or justice to come from such people.

Tolerance, Magnanimity, Democratic Rights of people, justice and fair play â?? these words are alien to the Sri Lankan government. But these are the key elements for peace and fostering unity in any multi cultural, multi linguistic, multi religion and multi ethnic society. Obviously, the government is not interested in peace and in the absence of these values, a just devolution of power to the Tamils in their homeland seems to be the only way out to correct the socio- economic and political imbalances of the people and to bring an honourable end to the conflict.
