The Yala wildlife sanctuary, a major tourist puller, in the southern district of Hambantota may have to be declared a no go zone for civilians due to military activities there, Sinhala newspapers are reporting. Over the past week, five civilians have been found dead in Yala. Earlier in the year Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) launched devastating attacks on Sri Lankan military posts and convoys in and around the sanctuary killing over a dozen soldiers.

The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) has been combing the sanctuary for more than a month without any success in finding the tigers.
