A total of 183 Medical Interns (MIs) of the 2000/2001 repeat batch has declined to apply for internship appointments, plunging country’s health care service into a crisis. Sources said despite the instruction of the Ministry of Healthcare and Nutrition to submit their applications, the MIs have decided not to abide by this order.
Some interns said they have taken this decision due to refusal of the ministry to the requests of directors of various hospitals to fill vacancies in their hospitals with MIs of this batch and arbitrary preparation of the appointment list.
The Group of Pre–Intern Doctors in a press release on Wednesday said that although the existing vacancies should be filled according to an accepted methodology through several batches, the ministry wants to fill vacancies only with 2000 / 2001 repeat batch.
