The Sri Lankan forces are stepping up their presence in the troubled Yala sanctuary following incidents of mysterious killings by unidentified men in recent times. More than two thousand Sri Lankan troopers were deployed in and around the Yala sanctuary to beef up security in the area following incidents of mysterious killings in the area.
Earlier a month ago the LTTE has raided a Sri Lankan army detachment deep inside the Yala sanctuary there by creating a security crisis in the area for the Sri Lankan government. The Yala attack and the subsequent mysterious killings have force the Sri Lankan security establishment to stretch their troops to the areas out side the theatre of war in the north east, said a military analyst.
According to reports the Sri Lanka Army camps and eight police sentries have been set up in villages in Tihssamaharama, around the sanctuary. Sri Lankan Police in the area has received information from villagers that unidentified persons dressed in black, seen moving around in the jungle area, have forcibly taken away a person with them, the report said.
