Editor of Uthayan and Sudaroli, Vidyatharan, urged the Diaspora Tamils to exert pressure upon international community to put great pressure upon the Sri Lankan government to grant autonomy for Tamils.

He also said it is the responsibility of Diaspora Tamils to create pressure on the international community for realizing the problems of the Tamils in Sri Lanka and to compel Sri Lankan government to stop violating Tamils’ rights.

In an interview with Australian Tamil Broadcasting Corporation (ATBC), Vidyatharan said international community has failed to give due reply to the statements of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, the brother of president of Sri Lanka.

In his statement, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said his government will take the lives of LTTE leaders one by one but the international community has not condemned it.

Vidyatharan said Thamilselvan was a great man with determination and commitment.

Recalling memories and his association with Thamilselvan, he said that Thamilselvan was an active youth when he was involved in military operations.

When he joined the political wing he became face of the LTTE in the international forum because of his smiling face.

Vidyatharan said present political wing leader of the LTTE is no less than Thamilselvan and his contribution to the LTTE is also great.

He said further that Nadesan has very good contacts in India, especially when he was in Tamil Nadu he had thorough contacts with the leaders in Tamil Nadu and New Delhi.

Many parliamentarians from all part of the globe from Paul Willms of the Netherlands to Councilors and MPs from the Canadian and UK parliaments and some US senators have spoken against the killing of the Tamil political. Some have even called it as a provocative act by the Sri Lankan government and called on the international community to impose sanctions on the SL government for failing to deliver a reasonable solution to legitimate aspirations of the Tamil community. Many had also pointed out the deteriorating human rights record in the country as a result of governmentâ??s actions and called upon the EU, India and the US to adopt a fair approach which can bring about an honourable end to the conflict. But calls need to come from the Heads of governments. Except for Hillary Clinton who had indirectly referred the LTTE as freedom fighters and Singaporeâ??s Lee Kuan Yew who had referred Sri Lanka as a failed state, the others are merely advising the Sri Lankan government to put forward a credible devolution package to the Tamils as they do not want to embarrass the Sri Lankan government.

On the other hand, looking at the of the reaction of the Singhalese government and the despicable behaviour of armed forces where the Singhalese leaders danced at the Presidentâ??s residence with liquor and celebrated the death of the chief spokesman of the rebels who is regarded as a moderate and a man of peace, celebrating killing and destruction of innocent lives and their properties (Thoppigala incident), killing school girls by aerial bombing (the outrageous Senchocholai bombing by the Air Force) and indulging in despicable acts of stripping bodies of people killed in the conflict displaying them nakedly in public (Anuradhapura Air base attack), one wonders if the government has the maturity or the intelligence to understand such signals to adhere to the wisdom words of world leaders. It is sad the country is not blessed with leaders with vision or of statesmanship.
