Sri Lanka's failed candidate for the United Nations' Secretary General post, Jayantha Dhanapala, has awarded himself a 'prestigious peace prize' according to a report filed by the Sri Lankan Defence Ministry website.
The prize is presented to Dhanapala by the International Peace Bureau (IPB), a small association of disarmament activists based in Zurich, Switzerland. Incidentally, Dhanapala has been acting as the 'Honorary President' of the association for a number of years. Dhanapala has awarded himself the prize for his work in creating a nuclear free zone in Central Asia. For More: http://www.ipb.org/leadership.html Set as favorite Bookmark Comments (1)

This is a complete misrepresentation of the facts. The MacBride Prize is decided by the Board of the International Peace Bureau. Ambassador Dhanapala is not a member of this Committee and knew nothing about our proposal until it was decided and announced. For your information the IPB is based in Geneva, not Zurich. The IPB is not a small association: we have 282 member organisations in 70 countries. Tomas Magnusson - Sweden, IPB President. Colin Archer - UK, IPB Secretary-General |
