UNP General Secretary MP Tissa Attanayake in parliament on Friday said that President Mahinda Rajapksa attempted to break the news of a military victory in Mahamulai, during his budget speech by launching operation in the area at the same time.
Speaking during the debate on the budget, Mr. Attanayake charged, “But the reality is that a number of soldiers were killed and injured in clashes with terrorists because of this political decision”.
He said that posters were also attached to the walls in the city to that effect before the budget, from which the LTTE could come to know about military operations in advance.
Criticising government’s decision, the UNP general secretary said that the government played with the lives of innocent soldiers in this case.
SLFP (M) MP Sripathi Sooriyarachchi also made the same allegation.
