Sri Lanka: Laborer abducted in Jaffna, two civilians seek protection from HRC

A day labourer, Chandran Thavanesan, 39, from Santhirasekarappillaiyaar Koayil area in Nallur Jaffna was abducted on Wednesday, according to a complaint by his relatives at the Jaffna Human Rights Commission office.
It is mentioned in the complaint that armed men coming in a white van near his house abducted Thavanesan.
Meanwhile, two civilians have sought protection at the HRC in Jaffna on Thursday, and Friday, after they received threats on their lives from Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers and SLA-backed paramilitaries, according to complaints submitted to the HRC.
Commission officials said a 37-year-old family man from Dutch Road in Maanipay in Jaffna surrendered on Thursday while a 26-year-old civilian from Puloly in Point Pedro sought protection from HRC on Friday.
