The United National Party has criticized the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse for openly appealing for the safety of his brothers and ministers, while giving callous regard to the safety of thousands of citizens.

UNP MP Lakshman Seneviratne told Sri Lankan parliament that, “The President has asked Basil and Gothabaya Rajapakse, and his ministers and MPs, to be extra vigilant about their safety. But what about school children, military personnel and other innocent civilians?”

The UNPer claimed that Mahinda government wants the military to do stunning things for their political gains but, this has led to the LTTE thwarting our operations.

“Why sacrifice the lives of our …soldiers when the president is only concerned about the safety of his brothers and himself?” he asked.

“He has no regard for innocent civilians or members of the armed forces.” He added.

The people of this country do not believe in the Government or its media, because they have been consistently trying to fool the general public the MP charged.

Seneviratne further said that the present government is only concerned about fighting a media war while suppressing media freedom and it is worse than the Nazi Germany.
