Hambantota District UNP Parliamentarian, Sajith Premadasa, on Wednesday said around ten thousand families have been displaced following a rise in suspected LTTE attacks in the district. Addressing the media he said that the fisheries, agriculture and the tourism are worth mentioning among the industries to have been severely affected because of displacement of this huge number of people. The UNP MP said the government has not taken any step to ensure security in the area although Hambantota is President Rajapaksa’s home town. He also said that the government immediately should grant relief to displaced people in the Tissamaharama area, like what has been taken by the government in the Northern and Eastern Provinces. | There had been countless number of interviews conducted among the affected people, video shows, comments and concerns from international rights groups, representatives from the UN, EU, US and other rights and humanitarian groups who after visiting the bombed areas and talking to the people ? all these people are of the opinion that it is the indiscriminate aerial bombing and shelling on villages and civilian areas by the Sri Lankan armed forces which had led to the tens of thousands of families being displaced from their homelands. The realities of actual situation also seem to prove this theory. Past incidences reveal that Tamil Women and young girls have been raped, School girls have been massacred in bombing raid, villages destroyed, the Tamils? possession robbed and properties destroyed by military and paramilitary personnel ? Aren?t these acts of state terrorism not in any way blamed for the displacements of the thousands of people. |
