Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentary group leader, R. Sampanthan, on Monday morning requested the Speaker in Sri Lankan Parliament to persuade the government for taking immediate steps in securing the release of S. Sajitharan, the abducted son-in-law of Batticaloa district TNA parliamentarian T. Kanagasabai, before vote on the budget.

He said the release of Sajitharan, abducted by government backed paramilitary Pillayaan cadres, on Sunday afternoon, will enable Batticaloa district TNA parliamentarians including Kanagasabai to vote on the Budget, scheduled to be held on Monday evening in Sri Lankan parliament.

Three out of four TNA parliamentarians of Batticaloa district were not present in the parliament on Monday morning as they are continuously receiving threats on their lives from Sri Lanka Army (SLA) backed paramilitary Pillayaan group.

Mr. Sampanthan told the House that the abduction was carried out by an armed group that operates with the protection of the armed forces of Sri Lanka which is also giving threat to other MPs including Kanagasabai not to vote against the budget.

He urged the speaker to exert pressure upon the Sri Lankan defence secretary so that he takes steps for the release of Sajitharan before the voting on budget takes place.

Two TNA MPs, R. Sampanthan and Suresh Premachandran, also strongly protested against the sudden withdrawal of the police protection provided to the residences of TNA parliamentarians in Batticaloa district.

Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wikramasinghe also spoke supporting the demand by the TNA and told the House that his party’s parliamentarian of Ratnapura district, Sagala Ratnayaka's family has also received such death threat from armed gang.

Sri Lanka is now slowly transforming ino a Terrorist State. State Terrorism is implemented by the Armed Forces and carried out by Paramilitaries and Police.
Human Rights violations on a large scale have been confirmed by Alan Rock, John Holms, Louise Arbour and Manfred Nowak - all from the UNO.
Daily killings, disappearances & abductions are occurring. Bodies are found in many places. The government couldnt care less.
