Paramilitary Pillayaan group released S. Sajitharan, son-in-law of the Batticaloa district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian T. Kanagasabai, after the budget vote in Sri Lankan parliament on Monday evening in which government won with a majority of 16 votes.
TNA sources said Mr. Sajitharan contacted MP Kanagasabai over telephone and told him that he has been released.
The paramilitary cadres abducted Sajitharan from the residence of the MP around 2.30 p.m. on Sunday and threatened that he would be killed if the MP voted against the budget.
Even they warned other TNA MPs too on Sunday over telephone of dire consequence if they voted against the budget.
But three of four Batticaloa district TNA parliamentarians, except T. Kanagasabai, voted against the government defying their threat.
