It has been reported to the Free Media Movement that Mr. Vadivel Nimalarajah, proof reader of Jaffna based Uthayan newspaper is missing since 17th November 2007. He has been with Uthayan news paper for last three years as night proof reader. According to FMM safety network sources in Jaffna, Mr.V. Nimalarajah was cycling his way home when he was abducted by unidentified group near Navalar Road railway crossing around 7.30 pm. He is 31 years old, unmarried and lived at Ncholas Lane, Kachcheri Nallur Road, Jaffna. His mother and brother have lodged a complained at the Humans Rights Commission office, Jaffna. FMM condemned this dastardly act and request who ever kidnapped him to release him immediately. Uthayan management believes that he may be kept in one of the paramilitary group offices in Jaffna and immediate action by the government may save his life. News paper Uthayan has come under tremendous pressure during last two years form government security forces and pro government para military groups for its Tamil nationalist editorial position. It has been fired at, its computer section destroyed, its newsprint stores were set on fire, and three of its staff was shot dead. The editor of Uthayan Mr. Kanamailnathan has been living in the news paper office for more than a year now and his news editor Mr.G. Kuganathan more than six months because of fear of going out.FMM is outraged that this provincial news paper which has been under continuous threats and harassment has been targeted again. FMM urge the government to take immediate action to save the life of Mr. Vadivel Nimalarajah and to bring the culprits to book. For more information - (+94) 777 315665 Spokesperson- S.
