Sri Lanka: SLA, SLN conduct war rehearsals in northern seas

Several thousand soldiers of Sri Lanka Army (SLA) with Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) shallow water vessels carried out a 3-hour war rehearsal on Monday morning in Araali, Valigaamam, sources in Jaffna said. Local people said during the war exercise that began around 6 a.m. the SLA soldiers prevented fishermen from going to the area to fish, and civilians residing near the area were forced to leave their houses.

People in the area became panicky because of deafening noise from the artillery barrage, sources said.

Sources said SLN carried out similar rehearsals recently in Valveddithurai, Thondamaanaaru and Kaangkeasanthurai.
