Two state of the art warships belonging to the Pakistani Navy docked at Colombo Port, within swimming distance from India, on Tuesday. The warships, an ex-UK frontline Type 21 Frigate PNS Shahjahan and a Chinese built Fuqing Class AOR PNS Nasr docked within striking distance of Southern India's nuclear facilities at early morning on Tuesday.
HMS Active (F171) was the Royal Navy's leading battleship during the Falklands war with Argentina. The 384 feet state of the art frigate was sold to Pakistan in 1994. It was renamed as PNS Shahjahan by the Pakistan Navy.
PNS Shahjahan boasts a Chinese LY 60N missile launcher, Signaal DA08 air search radar and several SRBOC chaff launchers and 20 mm and 30 mm guns.
From Colombo, the Signaal DA08 air search radar has the capacity to monitor all aerial activities in much on Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
LY 60N is a surface to air missile system that has a range of more than 10miles. It carries a 33kg warhead and uses semi-active radar homing.
Media reports say that the warships' presence at Colombo Port marked their closest ever incursion to India and especially its sensitive military installations in the south.
