It had been reported by Yalinee in Tamileditors.com of Thursday November 15 2007 that UN Secretary General’s report condemned the Sinhala government of neglecting human rights. This followed the UN’s representatives’ unsuccessful visits to the strife torn island to guide the Sinhalese to be cautious of HR. The Tamils world-wide knew already that nothing tangible would be done by the world body to correct the situation as those killed, tortured, raped and butchered were ethnic minority Tamils.
Minorities everywhere in the world always got raw deals from international bodies, as they were politically insignificant and ineffective. What some world citizens failed to recognise was that HR violation in Sri-Lanka had a planned agenda. It was an operation to intimidate the Tamil population into submission and to rob from them their Traditional Homeland (TH) of the Noth and East of Sri-Lanka (N&E).
A recent letter from Human Rights Watch to members of Congress stressed, since the collapse of a cease-fire last year, there had been a significant jump in abuses by government forces such as indiscriminate shelling, extrajudicial executions, and forced disappearances.
The racist army commander with a non-sinhala name of Fernando had openly declared to foreign media, BBC Channel 4 program on Sri Lanka the ‘Unreported World’ “Disappearances and killings will continue as long as ‘anti-terrorist’ operations are continuing”. This double talk of a military man exposes his idiocy. Government of Sri-Lanka (GSL) had a peace agreement with the LTTE and majorities of the Tamils were supporters of the aims and objectives of the LTTE. The goal was to get the right to govern themselves in their TH of the N&E. Where was terrorism? AI and the UN had confirmed that GSL is using terrorist methods to suppress the Tamils. So who were the terrorists?
Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse had made absolutely clear in announcing his government’s budget for 2008 that his government intended to wage an all-out war to destroy the LTTE and allocated a record budget for defence spending. This is contrary to the Peace Agreement signed by the UNP government in 2002 which is still a valid document. Consequently it could be assumed that violators are both signatories. The belligerent president disregarded saner counselling from USA, India, UK Canada, Australia and the EU and the co-chairs of aid giving nations not to go for war but to peace negotiations. Fools rushed in where angels feared to tread. He is a mediocre politician who never had any academic credentials. He thought he could bring down the Tigers with the help of one of Americans axis of evil Iran, America, Pakistan, China and India. That was why the heavy financial allocation for war.
Things do not happen according to plan of the mediocrity. Even Einstein would have hesitated to wage war against his country’s own population. The new Sri-Lankan war allies are strange bedfellows. China and Pakistan are trying to destabilise India in the same way as USA for the enormous market potential. An influential Indian newspaper reported on Wednesday that Delhi is 'deeply concerned' about the establishment of a maritime surveillance centre (spy system) by the United States in north-eastern Sri Lanka. The system, supposedly gifted to Sri Lanka to help in its war against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), had the capacity to monitor much of south India, the paper reported. India had established military and other nuclear facilities in south India as the North was vulnerable to attack from its traditional enemies, China and Pakistan. Where did this leave India? Would it get back to helping the Tigers to be a powerful force to restore military balance? If this were to happen which was very likely in this game of power politics Mahinda would look again a silly man “Sinhala modaya”.
As things stood now MR would be hell bent on war if the budget got through the Parliament. It would be then war between the LTTE and the GSL. It was almost certain that the sinhala government would stoop to law level to fight a dirty war. LTTE would then retaliate with the same coin. The final victims would be the ordinary Tamil civilians. According to TamilNet, Wednesday, 14 November 2007, Professor Jeyadeva Uyangoda, Head of Department of Political Science and Public Policy, University of Colombo, revealed recently the attitude of the Sinhala government. He said “the message the Tamil citizens have got from the government is that the government treats each Tamil – young or old, man or woman, sick and able bodied – as a potential and imminent threat to the Sri Lankan state and its security, unless that Tamil is a supporter, well-wisher or participant in the government’s counter-insurgency war."
Tamils as a race would be suspect and hounded out as traitors. On Friday, 02 November 2007 Sri Lanka Army (SLA) arrested 22 Tamil youths in Chinnakku’lam Centre for Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in Trincomalee district during a search operation conducted Saturday early morning, according to complaints made by the IDPs to Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian K. Thurairatnasingam
In addition, on Friday, 02 November 2007 56 girls, majority of them Tamils, were taken into custody in a combined cordon and search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Friday morning till noon at Galkissa, a town in the Colombo district. Majority of them are residents of northeast province.
On the following day, Saturday, 03 November 2007, 27 civilians were taken into custody at Pussellawa, an estate tamil town in the Nuwara Eliya district in the upcountry. This was after a cordon and search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Army Saturday from 4 a.m. till 11 a.m. Majority of them were Tamils and residents of Northeast province, civil sources said.
Dead bodies of defenceless victims of terror surfaced in unthinkable places like ravine, field and in sacred temple premises. Spokesman for the SL Police said that they found the bodies of five ethnic Tamils blindfolded and shot dead in Sri Lanka's embattled north on Sunday Nov 4th. The bodies were found in Thavasikulam village in northern Vavuniya district. Now the execution/killing rate is almost 10 a day in the North and East of Sri-Lanka. Once the war started the wailing of the Tamils in the North and East would be heard in heaven. The already massacred dead were wailing from their sandy or muddy graves among the palmyrah groves. Let the dead bury the dead. They should be afforded decent religious burials for their souls to rest in peace. Dead men tell no tales. We as expatriate Tamils could only pray like Poet Milton in his poem Massacre at Peidmont.
“Avenge oh Lord, thy slaughtered saints, whose bones Lie scattered on the Alpine mountains cold--------” etc.
Avenge oh God.
